TOLEDO, OH —
Rev. Michael J. Moore, O.S.F.S., died on June 11, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. Michael was born in Holyoke, MA in 1941. He attended Bishop Duffy High School in Niagara Falls, NY, was ordained to the priesthood in 1968, and returned to the school as a teacher. He eventually served as the last principal of Bishop Duffy, which, in 1975, merged with Madonna High School to become Niagara Catholic. He then volunteered for the missions in Brazil.
While in Brazil, Padre Miguel ministered ten years in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul - training the newest members of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales. He participated in the founding of the Oblate Mission in India before ministering again in Brazil for 17 years in the northeastern state of Bahia.
He was elected the first Provincial of the newly formed South American Province in 2007 and ministered to Oblate communities in Brazil, Uruguay, Ecuador and Haiti. He returned to his beloved City of Saude in Bahia in 2011, and served there until he became sick.
Padre Miguel was preceded in death by his parents, James and Nora Moore; and by his sister, Mary Skiba (Adrian). He is survived by his brother, James and sister-in-law, Mary Ann; niece, Catherine and nephews, Patrick, James and Conan. His Oblate Brothers all over the world mourn his loss and pray for his eternal salvation.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial for Fr. Michael on Saturday, June 22, at 10:00 AM in St. Pius X Church with burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Toledo, OH. The Coyle Funeral Home is assisting his family and the Oblates with services.
