Roderick T. Tower

YOUNGSTOWN — Roderick T. Tower, age 89, lifelong resident of Youngstown, died Saturday, June 15, 2013, at his home while under the loving care of his family and Niagara Hospice.

Rod was born July 11, 1923 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late George P. and Adelaide (Thomas) Tower and was a 1939 graduate of Youngstown High School. Farming was his life. Rod owned and operated Tower Orchards in Youngstown for many, many years. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Niagara County Cooperative Extension. Rod enjoyed,   hunting, fishing, hockey, boating and traveling. He had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown since 1939.

Rod married Elsie (Dygert) Tower in 1946. Elsie predeceased him on September 3, 1977. He is survived by his children, David Tower, Robert (Jacquelyn) Tower, Darcy (Bruce) Paeplow, Claudia (Dr. Jerome) Andres, all of Youngstown, Brenda (Calvin) Jennings of Columbus, OH, and Mark Tower (Jennifer Filipski) of Youngstown; his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jo Anna, Brian, Ian, Adam, Nick, Halley, Peter, Sarah, Jonathon, Alyssa, Brian and Cara; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Doris Tower. He was             predeceased by two brothers, Richard and George Tower.

Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Monday from 4-8 PM. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 18, at 11:00 AM in the funeral home, with the Rev. Charles Lamb officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Rural Cemetery, Youngstown. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094; or to remember Elsie in a special way, the National MS Society Upstate NY Chapter, Donor Relations Center, 1650 South Avenue, Suite 100, Rochester, NY 14620-3901.
