David Lincoln "Whitey" Lucas

LOCKPORT — David Lincoln "Whitey" Lucas, longtime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at Niagara Hospice House. He was 88. He was born in Winburne, PA on September 3, 1925, a son of the late Robert and Amber Lucas.

Mr. Lucas served in the United States Coast Guard in 1945, and then in the United States Army in Korea during the Korean War from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1956. He married Betty Lutes in 1969, and they remained happily married for 34 years until her passing in 2003. Mr. Lucas worked as a truck driver for Certain Teed Products, Levy Brothers Furniture and Kolipinski Furniture.

"Whitey" was an avid softball player and accomplished pitcher who played for Canadian Corp in Niagara Falls, Ontario, and for the Niagara Gazette, The Stadium Grill and in a local church league. He was also a member of the Niagara Falls Umpires Association for 45 years.

There will be no prior visitation and burial will be at the convenience of the family alongside his wife in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.
