Michael Nowak

NORTH TONAWANDA — Michael Nowak, age 60, of North Tonawanda, passed away January 14, 2014. Mr. Nowak was born June 29, 1953 in Niagara Falls, NY, son of the late John and Laura Nowak.

Michael was a graduate of LaSalle High School. He was in the first trial of Dr. Lawrence Jacobs of the Dent Neurological Institute's use of interferon for the treatment of MS.

Michael loved skydiving He was able to begin a fund raiser for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of WNY; it was called the"First Annual Erie Co. Winter Carnival Charity Accuracy Meet" and it was held in Chestnut Ridge Park. In 1995 Mr. Nowak was awarded the "Courage to Come Back" award from the Clarkson Center for human services.

Mr. Nowak was a member of the Frontier Skydiving Club. He enjoyed music, puzzles and in recent years, sailing with the Western NY Adaptive Water Sports. For many years he volunteered at the MS Society of WNY and was a longtime member of the National MS Society.

Michael is survived by his brother, Gene (Sara Parsons) Nowak of TX; his sister, Cynthia (John) Farah; his son, Justin Rebon; also survived by three grandsons, nieces, nephews and cousins

Michael donated his body to the University of Buffalo School of Medicine. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 1, 2014, from Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church, 57 Center St., North Tonawanda, at 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to National MS Society, 4245 Union Rd., Buffalo, NY 14225.
