Josephine Marie Costanzo

LOCKPORT — Josephine Marie Costanzo, a longtime resident of Niagara Falls, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, peacefully, surrounded by her family in Niagara Hospice House. She was 88. She was born in Penfield, PA on March 7, 1926, the daughter of Joseph and Rosetta (Brink) Smith. Josephine attended grammar schools and graduated from Penfield High School in Pennsylvania. On February 25, 1948, she married John S. Costanzo in Niagara Falls. Together they celebrated 53 years of marriage. He died January 11, 2001.

Josephine worked for Bell Aircraft and Airco Carbon for 25 years. She was a longtime member of Holy Family Parish of Jesus, Mary and Joseph (St. Joseph's) and the Order Italian Sons and Daughters of America, 240 Cataract Lodge, Niagara Falls.

Affectionately known as Nana Jo to many, she always wore a welcoming smile and was known for her wonderful cooking, always surrounding her table with her delicious meals and baked goods for her family and friends.

She will be dearly missed by her three daughters, Brenda Cicco (Thomas) of Niagara Falls; Diane Novak (Mark) of Grand Island, and Margaret Mandelik (Gustav) of Citrus Heights, CA; her grandchildren, Desiree Palka (Michael) of Grand Island; Darci Novak of Grand Island; Aaron (Martha) Mandelik of CO; Andrew Mandelik, Nikolaus Mandelik and Jennifer Mandelik, all of California; her furry great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings, Kathryn Heilig Smith, Dorothy Beebe, David Smith, Albert Smith, Lavansha Williams and Lu Pries.

There will be no prior visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, June 27 at 10 AM in Holy Family Parish of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls. PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. The entombment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Town of Lewiston. The LANE FUNERAL HOME is handling the funeral arrangements.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Niagara Hospice House for their outstanding care and support given to Josephine and family.
