Alexander J. Makowski

LOCKPORT — Alexander J. Makowski, a mechanical, structural and electrical engineer, died Monday at Niagara Hospice. He was 92.

Mr. Makowski was born in Warsaw, Poland where he lived with six siblings until WWII. He fought in the Polish Underground during WWII and as a member of the Polish Army.

After the war, Mr. Makowski studied at the University of Rome and then resided in England for 10 years before immigrating to the United States. Working as an engineer in Cobleskill, NY, Mr. Makowski met and married his wife, Sonya. Job opportunity moved Mr. Makowski to Buffalo, where he resided for the next 40 years. After retirement, Mr. Makowski settled in Ransomville.

Mr. Makowski received a degree in Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo while raising two children, Jeffrey Makowski of Cheektowaga, NY and Yvette Vincent of            Ransomville, NY.

Mr. Makowski had a pilot's license early in his career and enjoyed travel, camping and WWII     history.

In addition to his wife of 55 years and children, he is survived by three grandchildren, Phillip Makowski, John Henry Vincent and Erika Vincent; and numerous family members in Poland.

Services are private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Rd., Ransomville, NY.
