Philomena L. "Lucille" (nee Adams) Mauro, 90, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed from this life on Monday, July 8, 2013 in Northgate Manor in Wheatfield, NY, following a lengthy battle against Alzheimer's disease. Born on May 7, 1923 in Walston, PA, she was the daughter of the late Frank Thomas and Elizabeth (Kramer) Adams.
Mrs. Mauro attended schools in Pennsylvania and graduated from Punxsutawney High School. On October 31, 1944, Lucille, as she was known by family and friends, married Peter Joseph Mauro in St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. He predeceased her on June 29, 2008. For several years, she worked for various restaurants in Niagara Falls, NY. Mrs. Mauro was a member of the former St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church in Niagara Falls, NY, where she served on their Altar & Rosary Society. Lucille enjoyed crocheting, knitting and making homemade quilts. The Mauro family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to the entire staff at Northgate Manor for the five years of professional, loving care that was given to Lucille.
Mrs. Mauro is survived by four children, David (Mary Jane) Mauro of Niagara Falls, NY, Sharon (late John) Kelman of Henderson, NV, Dennis Mauro of North Tonawanda, NY and Tom (Kathy) Mauro of Niagara Falls, NY; seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Lucille is also survived by four siblings, Samuel "Sam" (Jean) Adams of Pennsylvania, Robert Adams of Pennsylvania, Francis "Bud" Adams of Niagara Falls, NY and Nora (James) Seifferly of Michigan; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one grandson, James Mort; one sister, Jane (late Lloyd) Fournier; and one brother, Charles (late Donna) Adams.
The family will be present to receive friends on Thursday, July 11th from 3-7 PM in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (716-297-9007) where a funeral service will follow visitation at 7:00 PM. Private graveside services will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Western New York Chapter, 2805 Wehrle Drive, Suite 6, Williamsville, NY 14221.
