Vernon M. Mt. Pleasant

LEWISTON — Vernon M. Mt. Pleasant, of Ransomville, NY, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2013, in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, NY.

A member of the Beaver Clan, he was born in Ransomville, NY, on September 20, 1959, the son of the late Howard and Ruby (Wilson) Mt. Pleasant.

He attended the Tuscarora Indian School and Niagara Wheatfield High School. Vernon was a longtime employee of Randy's Smoke Shop.

He loved spending time with his family, especially his son and grandchildren. He rarely missed a day without stopping after work to see them; always bringing them to the store for treats. Vernon enjoyed spending time with the "Old Men's Club" on Green Road. On  Sunday  afternoons  (weather permitting), you would find him playing horseshoes with his friends. In his younger days, he enjoyed running track. Vernon had a heart of gold, always helping others.

Vernon is survived by his live-in companion, Judy A. Chew; son, Vernon (Tanya) Mt. Pleasant; grandfather of Shania and Summer Mt. Pleasant; step-father of Walter Chew, Erica (Daniel) Swiatek and Carla Baron; three step-grandchildren,  Daniel, Lance and Kayla; two brothers, Howard (Helen) Mt. Pleasant and Jerauld (Cindy) Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Phyllis (late Franklin) Patterson and Debbie (Brian) Zacher; also many nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of the late Shoney Dubuc and brother of the late Larry and John Mt. Pleasant and Loretta Stone.

The family will be present on Monday from 11-12:00 PM at the Tuscarora Baptist Church, 2208 Mt. Hope Road, Sanborn, NY,  with the  Rev. Walter A. Printup, Jr. officiating. Vernon gave the gift of life as an organ donor. Arrangements were made through the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, Sanborn, NY. Interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery on the Tuscarora Nation.
