Anita R. Jacobs

YOUNGSTOWN —  

Anita R. (nee Schleifer) Jacobs, 89, of Youngstown, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 14, 2012 in Medina Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness. She was born in Newark, New Jersey on August 12, 1923 to the late Isabella (nee Davis) and Herman Schleifer.
As a child, Mrs. Jacobs spent several years in England, and returned to the United States as a teenager. In 1971, the former Anita Schleifer married Jacob "Jack" Jacobs in New York. He passed away on November 18, 2008. In 1971, Anita and her late husband, Jack, started their own business the Old Rocking Chair Antique Shop in Ransomville, NY. In 1981, they opened The Book Shelf on Ontario Avenue in Niagara Falls which specialized in old books and records. They sold the store and retired in 1996. Mrs. Jacobs was a published local poet, an avid reader and was an active member of Temple Beth El.
She is survived by two sons, Steven S. (Lucille Tantillo) Baum of Niagara Falls, NY, Leslie (Emily Rubin) Baum of NYC; two step-children, Anthony (Shoshona) Jacobs of London, England, Francis Barry Jacobs of Ohio; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley (late Danny) Basevin of Greensboro, NC; nieces and nephews, Lee (Robert Hunt) Kass of West Virginia, Sandra (Nick) Tsantills of Hempstead, NY, Denise (Michael) Peterson, of Greensboro, NC, Lauren Rosenthal Efron of Virginia, David Rosenthal of Colorado; dear friends, Everett (Ruth) Stringer of Lockport, Elaine Hope and Beth Krieger; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
There will be no prior visitation. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at Temple Beth El, 720 Ashland Ave., Niagara Falls, NY, at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Friends invited. Flowers gratefully declined. If desired, memorials may be made in Mrs. Jacobs memory to Temple Beth El or the SPCA of Niagara, 2100 Lockport Rd., Niagara Falls, NY 14304.
