Carol Gannett Jessop


Carol Gannett Jessop, 97, passed away on December 16, 2012 at Northgate Health Care Facility, North Tonawanda, NY. Born Carol May Gannett in Geneva, NY, daughter of the late Avery and Sara Gannett; and sister of the late Dorothy Gannett Lynch.
She went to Ontario Business School and was secretary to the President of Hulse Co. in Geneva. She married Eldred Ward in 1938, moving to Rochester, NY in 1941. Following the passing of her "Eldy" in 1959, Carol was a secretary at South Presbyterian Church and Brighton Schools, and for the Chancellor of the University of Rochester. She then met the second love of her life, Rev. William Jessop. They married in 1972, serving churches in western New York and enjoying travel and photography, settling in Lewiston, NY, upon Bill's retirement. Bill passed away in 1999. Carol lived a full and loving life, centered on family. She was active in the church and volunteer work. She was secretary for a number of groups, volunteered at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, and received service awards from AARP, Niagara County Office for the Aging, and Cataract Camera Club.
Carol is survived by sons, Douglas (Ann) Ward of Midland, MI and Russell (Marjorie) Ward of Latham, NY; step-daughter, Mar Penner Griswold of Fort Erie, ON; grandchildren, Katherine Ward, Gregory (Stephanie) Ward, and Matthew (Anthea) Ward; great-grandchildren, Aiden Ward, William Ward, and Miles Ward; nephew, Robert Lynch; and niece, Marcia Lynch.
Contributions may be made to St. James United Methodist Church, 4661 Porter Rd., Niagara Falls, NY 14305, where a memorial service will be arranged at a later date.
