Charlotte (affectionately known as "Lottie") Matthews, of Lewiston, NY, peacefully passed away at her Lewiston home on Saturday, November 16, 2013, surrounded by her loving family, and under the care of Niagara Hospice.
For the past four years she was cared for at home by her loving children, Christine Matthews, Linda Ungaro, and Norman M. Matthews. Lottie was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on October 28, 1916, the daughter of the late  Joseph and Emilia (Bemben) Bielic.
She attended Holy Trinity Parochial School, South Junior and Niagara Falls High School. Lottie was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking Polish food for her family. She loved crocheting and crocheted many afagans and baby blankets for her family and friends. Lottie loved spending time with her family especially with her grandsons, Eric and Steven Matthews and Louis Ungaro.
A special thank you to daughter-in-law, Linda Matthews, for all the delicious casseroles she made for the family during the past four years as well as the kindness shown their grandmother by her loving grandsons, Steven and Eric Matthews during this time. Another special thank you to son-in-law, Albert Ungaro for sending his mother-in-law, whom he affectionately called Grandma, her favorite goodies from San Diego, CA for many years. Our deepest gratitude and thanks to Mrs. Barbara Pawlik, C.N.A., who came to our rescue when Lottie broke her leg.
Lottie was the wife of the late Marion John Matthews, who died in 1981. She is survived by her son, Norman M. (Linda) Matthews of Lewiston, NY; daughters, Christine Matthews of Lewiston, NY and Linda (Albert) Ungaro of San Diego, CA; two grandsons, Eric and Steven Matthews of Lewiston, NY; two nephews, Patrick Brown of Niagara Falls, NY and Daniel Holliday of the Villages, FL. Lottie was the beloved grandmother of the late Louis Ungaro (2002); and sister of the late Casimer Bielic (1991), John Bielic (1995) and Helen Lichota (1997).
Private Funeral Services were held at the wishes of her family. Memorials may be made in her name to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094. Interment in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Arrangements were made through the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, LEWISTON, NY.
