Clayton R. Burford

CITY OF TONAWANDA — Clayton R. Burford, age 81, of the City of Tonawanda, died on Saturday, June 14, 2014, after a brief illness. Born in Mahoning Township, PA to the late Homer H. and Margaret (Henry) Burford, he had been a resident of the City of Tonawanda for over 40 years, and was the husband of Bernadine (nee Crum) Burford, who died in December 2006. Mr. Burford was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He had been employed as a Repairman for GM Powertrain in the Town of Tonawanda, retiring in 1994. A member of the Hard Hats of Niagara, Clayton also worked on the construction of the Niagara Power Project. He was a member of the Ancient Landmarks Lodge No. 358 F&AM, and the Local UAW 774.

He is survived by two children, Kathleen (Fred) Back of Clarence Center, NY, and Jeffrey (Theresa) Burford of Grand Island, NY; three grandchildren, Laura, Jacob and Karli; a loving companion, Pauline McMeechan; three loving sisters, Lillian, Dorene and Janet; and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 3-9 PM at JOHN O. ROTH FUNERAL HOME, INC., 25 William St. (between Morgan & Broad Sts.), City of Tonawanda. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 19, at 10:30 AM at First Presbyterian Church, 149 Broad St., City of Tonawanda. Friends invited. Rev. Edmund Hoener will officiate. Burial will be in Acacia Park Cemetery, Pendleton, NY. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to the Kenmore Mercy Foundation, 2950 Elmwood Avenue, 6th Floor, Kenmore, NY 14217.
