Harvey A. General

NIAGARA FALLS — Harvey A. General, 88, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed from this life on Friday, June 13, 2014, at his residence, following a lengthy illness. Born on June 12, 1926 on the Six Nations Indian Reservation, Ohsweken, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of the late Alfred and Margaret (Carpenter) General.

Mr. General was raised and attended schools in Ohsweken, Ontario and came to Niagara Falls, NY in the mid 1940s. On March 30, 1945, Harvey married the former Virginia A. Miller. She predeceased him in October of 1985. For forty-one years, he was employed as a crane operator for Union Carbide, until his retirement on September 1, 1986. Mr. General enjoyed racing his dogs in the coon dog field trials and watching hockey.

Mr. General is survived by four daughters, JoAnne (Dave) Ahartz of Minnesota, Robin (Rick Martin) General of Ohsweken, Ontario, Canada, Jackie (Terry) Ferguson of Niagara Falls, NY, and Lisa (Mike) MacNeil, NFPD of Niagara Falls, NY; three sons, Steve General of Niagara Falls, NY, Brian (Peachy) General of Ohsweken, Ontario, Canada, and David (Terry) General of Minnesota, and is also survived by Jeff Bishop, who was loved like a son. Survivors also include thirty-two grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Kenny (Anne) General of Ohsweken, Ontario, Canada, Doris (Wilf) Myke of Brantford, Ontario, Canada, Ted (Faye) General of Ohsweken, Ontario, Canada, and Gary (Deb) General of Ohsweken, Ontario, Canada, and several nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as his extended family, the Bishop family. In addition to his parents and wife, Harvey was predeceased by four children, Leslie General, Rocky (Pearl of the Tuscarora Indian Reservation) General, Margaret Smith and Dawn Lynn General and three siblings, Russ General, Phyllis Newhouse and Caroline General.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, from 2-4 and 6-7:45 PM in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where a prayer service will conclude visitation at 7:45 PM. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Wednesday, June 18th at 11:00 AM, which will be celebrated in the Grand River United Church, 1585 Mohawk Road, RR1, Ohsweken, Ontario, Canada (3rd Line and Mohawk Road). EVERYONE WILL ASSEMBLE AT THE CHURCH. Interment will follow in the Grand River United Church Cemetery.
