LEESBURG, FL —
Edward Henry Sidney Boyer, Sr. passed away at his home in the Coachwood East community in Leesburg, FL on September 24, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. He was 84 years old.
He was born August 16, 1929 in Roulette, PA and was raised in the surrounding Alleghany, PA area. In April 1951, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in March 1957. In 1954 he met the love of his life, Dorothy Jean Gill in Niagara Falls, NY. They were married on January 1, 1955, and lived in the Western New York area. Ed owned and operated a floor covering store in Ransomville, NY and in later years worked for the Salvation Army Camp Troutburg in Morton, NY, where he retired. After his retirement, Ed and Jean enjoyed traveling the country in their RV visiting friends and family all across the country. Ed was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he and Jean enjoyed bowling and playing cards. They settled in the Coachwood East community where Ed provided lawn, remodeling and handyman services for many friends and residents. He was a valued member of the community.
Ed is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Jean); his children, Edward, Juanita, Brenda, Nadine, Pamela, Brian and Keith; 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; brothers, Sylvester (Scoot) and Joe; sisters, Nellie, Avah and Cherie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at Free Methodist Church, 3924 Ransomville Rd., Ransomville, NY, on October 12, 2013, at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Leesburg Hospice, Leesburg, FL.
