Robert L. Mort, Sr.

NIAGARA FALLS — Robert L. Mort, Sr., lifetime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2013, at his residence, after a brief illness. He was 86. He was born in Niagara Falls on July 13, 1927, a son of the late Harry and Marie (Ruffner) Mort. He attended local schools, including LaSalle High School, after which he married Shirley McGill on October 5, 1946. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.

After his honorable discharge he worked as a machine operator at the Carborundum              Company's Niagara Falls Plant on Buffalo Avenue until 1948, when he began his career in the Sodium Department of E.I. DuPont's Niagara Falls Plant until his retirement in 1985.

Mr. Mort was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the Niagara Falls Moose Lodge #838, the Buff Social Club, the American Legion Post #1 in Washington, D.C., and the LaSalle Sportsmen's Club.

He is survived by five children, Robert L. Mort, Jr. (predeceased by his wife, Patricia Alexander) of Niagara Falls, NY, Edna (Herbert) Briscoe of Jacksonville, TX, Janet (Dave) Kennedy of Ransomville, NY, Judy (Rob) Grabka of Lewiston, NY, and Jean Moyer (Mike Celani) of Grand Island, NY. Also survived by his brothers, Neil Mort and James Mort and one sister, Sally Dolson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Mort was predeceased by brothers,  Daniel Mort, Louis (Jack) Mort, Jerry Mort, Roger Mort and sisters, Genevieve Saunders, Hazel Costello and Betty Carver. Grandfather of Trisha (Bob) Hilliard, Sheri Mort, Bobbielee (Sean) Pardee, Sandi Mort, Joe Grabka, Matthew Moyer, Nathan (Jen) Kennedy. Great-grandfather of Marlee, Mason, Miranda Hilliard, Lacie (Nick) Roessler, Cody Mort, Lexis, Brandon Pardee, Anthony Cioutuszynski, Nate,Elliott, Benjamin Kennedy.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM Tuesday in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in N.F. Memorial Park Cemetery, Town of Lewiston. The family of Mr. Mort would like to extend a special thank you to the Hospice House staff.
