Reverend Marc Clifford

COLUMBIA, MO — A Mass of Resurrection was celebrated honoring the life of Reverend Marc Clifford, a Catholic priest for nearly 44 years. The funeral services were held Friday, April 5 at the Newman Center on the campus of the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO, where Father Clifford had been living in retirement. He died on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013.

Father Clifford, 71, was born in Niagara Falls NY. He was the son of the late Eugene and     Margaret Gallagher Clifford. Father Clifford graduated from Bishop Duffy High School in 1959, and was the class valedictorian. He began his education for the priesthood with the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales in Childs, MD. Father Clifford received a B.S. summa cum laude from Niagara University and an M.A. in theology from the Catholic University of America. He was ordained by Most Rev. James McNulty, Bishop of Buffalo,  on September 6, 1969.

From 1970 to 1982, Father Clifford taught and worked as an administrator at Bishop Duffy, later Niagara Catholic High School. He helped introduce computers and management information technology at the school. Father Clifford also taught at Oblate high schools in Philadelphia, PA, Toledo, OH and Salt Lake City, UT.

Father Clifford served as associate pastor of Assumption Parish in Duncan, OK from 1993 to 2000. Donna Blauch worked at the parish school. She said, "Father Marc was a kind and gentle man who would help everyone in his quiet, modest way. He personified what St. Francis de Sales said, "Be who you are and be that well."   

Father Clifford later worked in campus ministry at North Texas State University in Denton, TX. Known for his quiet sense of humor, he quipped to his cousin Ellen Vitek, "After 30 years of teaching high school, I finally made it to college."

Father Clifford enjoyed reading and watching movies. He studied film while at Catholic           University.

He is survived by several cousins and dear friends, Donna and Matthew Blauch.
