Muriel G. Donovan

PRATT, WV — Muriel G. Donovan, of Pratt, WV, formerly of Lewiston, NY, passed away on March 28, 2013.

Mrs. Donovan was born April 30, 1918 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Austin M. and Violet G. (Downs) Lever.

She was a 1936 graduate of Niagara Falls High School and in 1941, she received her BS in Home Economics from Buffalo State Teachers College.

On June 27, 1942, she married Robert R. Donovan and they moved to Lewiston in 1955. Robert predeceased her on January 12, 2002.

Muriel was a Home Economics teacher in the Newfane High School and then worked as a   substitute teacher in the Niagara Falls School District, the Niagara Wheatfield and Lewiston Porter School Districts. Muriel and Bob then operated Harris & Lever Florists in Niagara Falls for 20 years, both retiring in 1980.

Muriel was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston; a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron Mu Chapter in Buffalo, an honor society in the field of Home Economics; a member of the Lewiston Historical Association; the Old Fort Niagara Association; a former member of the College Club of Niagara Falls; a member of ZONTA; past president of the former Home Economics Society in Niagara Falls; treasurer and member of Niagara International FTD; and a former Girl Scout leader of Troop 104 in Lewiston. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling and gardening. In later years she also was a member of Book Club and Red Hatters.

She is survived by a son, Robert L. (Lois) Donovan of Medina, NY; and a daughter, Patricia D. (William) Arnold of Pratt, WV. Grandchildren include Kevin Donovan, Shiela Donovan and fiance' Brian Wyncoop, Jillian and Christopher Walton, and Meghan and Nicholas Sowards. Great-grandchildren are Connor, Caleb and Aiden Walton.          

Funeral service will be held at Old Stone Church, 505 Cayuga St., Lewiston, NY, on April 6 at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Ray Noell officiating. Burial will be private in the Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston. Friends may call one hour prior to service at the church. O'Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, WV, is in charge of the arrangements.
