Mark F. Downie

Mark F. Downie, age 58, of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2012 after fighting a long, hard battle with cancer. Mark was born on September 14, 1954 in Niagara Falls to Frank and Ruth (Hodgkiss) Downie.
Mark graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1972 and moved to the Tampa Bay area shortly thereafter and remained there for 10 years before returning to Niagara Falls. Mark loved the outdoors and working with his bare hands. He was an avid fisherman who loved to read. Mark had an amazing memory and an uncanny ability to recall names, dates and events, and was always up to a healthy debate about most any topic, whether he knew what he was talking about, or not.
Mark will be greatly missed and is survived by his loving parents, Frank and Ruth (Hodgkiss) Downie; sister, Diana Downie; brothers Dan Downie, Jim (Carla) Downie, and Sean (Cindy) Downie; five nieces and three great-nieces/nephew; his loving companions, Rose Joe and Buster, his cat; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Friends may call on Friday, November 23rd from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at ZAJAC FUNERAL HOME, 319-24th Street, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 24th. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Elm and Carlton Streets, Buffalo, NY 14263.
