Ernest "Ernie" Murdoch


Ernest "Ernie" Murdoch, age 73, of Lewiston, died on Friday, January 11, 2013 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, after a lengthy illness. Ernie was born on November 11, 1939 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Robert and Gladys (Carpenter) Murdoch and was a lifelong resident of Lewiston.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1958 and on May 28, 1960, he married Janine (VandenBosch) Murdoch. Ernie was employed by the Village of Lewiston Department of Public Works for 40 years, retiring in 1999 as Superintendent. He was also the former owner of Lewiston Trenching Company. He was instrumental in the restoration of Lewiston Landing and upon his retirement date it was renamed Murdoch Landing. He was a Communicant of St. Peters R.C. Church in Lewiston. Ernie was a charter member, Governor, and Trustee of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #584 in Lewiston; a member of the American Legion Post #1083 in Lewiston; the 3-F Conservation Club; and the Association of Retired Superintendents of New York State. Ernie was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren especially at his Westfield Camp. In spite of his lengthy illness, Ernie never lost his sense of humor.
He is survived by wife, Janine; a daughter, Theresa M. Murdoch (Patrick Thompson); a son, Michael Murdoch (Elisa Newman), both of Lewiston; his grandchildren, Ryan, Michael, and Tyler Rueter, Brooke and Cole Murdoch; a sister, Mary (Lester) Losell of Niagara Falls, NY; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Kathy Woodruff, Margaret Lebans, and Eva Alexander; and two brothers, Robert and William Murdoch.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston on Sunday from 7-9 PM and Monday from  2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 15, at 10:00 AM in St. Peter's R.C. Church, 600 Center St., Lewiston, with the Rev. Michael Zuffoletto officiating. (Please assemble at Church). Burial will follow in the Dickersonville Cemetery, Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Caring Voice Coalition, Inc., 8249 Meadowbridge Rd., Mechanicsville, VA 23116.
