James J. O'Connor

James J. O'Connor, 92, of Lewiston, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence after a brief illness with his daughter-in-law, Michele, by his side. Born in New York City, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph and Alice (Horgan) O'Connor.
James attended school in New York City and was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School. He later came to Niagara Falls, NY where he met and married the love of his life, Ruth (Zents) O'Connor on October 4, 1951. Following her sudden death on January 11, 1974, James cherished her memory and their 22 years of marriage. James was employed as a maintenance worker for the former Alox Corp. in Niagara Falls, NY and retired in 1983 after thirty years of service.
He was an avid sports fan his entire life but his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren, who kept him young at heart and who loved, respected and cherished him dearly. Known over the years as "Papa", he will be sadly missed by his entire family who were blessed to have him in their lives for so many years.
James is survived by his son, James (Michele) O'Connor of North Tonawanda, NY; his daughter, Alice (Aurelio) DiRamio of Lewiston, NY; three grandchildren, Brian O'Connor of North Tonawanda, NY, Angela (Jeffrey) DiFant of Syracuse, NY and Anthony DiRamio of Knoxville, TN; and one niece, Michele Rizzo of Niagara Falls, NY. He was predeceased by one sister, Emily Rizzo, on April 15, 2013.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 4-7 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Family and friends are invited to assemble for a funeral service on Monday, August 5th at 11:00 AM at the St. Joseph Cemetery Chapel, 3806 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, 8201 Corporate Drive, Suite 1000, Landover MA  20785.
