NIAGARA FALLS —
Ernest P. DeLabio, "Ernie", 92, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2013 at Schoellkopf Health Care Facility in Niagara Falls, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Paul and Josephine (Fabiano) DeLabio, and was the son-in-law of the late Antonio and Francesca Cerminara.
Ernie attended local schools, and left home at the age of 15 to serve at a Civilian Conservation Camp (CCC) in the mid-West. During World War II, he served in the United States Army Air Corps and was stationed in Tinian. On December 10, 1945, he married Nancy (Cerminara) DeLabio in Sacred Heart rectory in Niagara Falls, NY. Ernie worked for over 37 years for the Niagara Falls Board of Education, retiring as a maintenance supervisor. An avid outdoorsman, he was a member of the LaSalle Sportsmen's Club in Niagara Falls and also enjoyed fishing. He and his wife also enjoyed their cross-country camping trips and vacationing in the Thousand Island region of New York. He also enjoyed his daily walk on Pine Avenue. Most importantly, his life centered on his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
In addition to his wife of sixty-seven years, Mr. DeLabio is survived by two daughters, Paula (Ronald) Babcock and Suzanne (Vincent) Auricchio, both of Niagara Falls, NY; six grandchildren, Michael (Pamela) Shavalier, Jason Shavalier, Sandra Otte, Justin Shavalier, Nathan Shavalier, and Ronald Babcock, Jr.; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Emily (late Louis) Martinez, Mary (Charles) Mansu, both of Niagara Falls, NY and Joanie DeLabio of Arizona; two brothers, Joseph (Joan) DeLabio and Robert (Clara) DeLabio, both of Niagara Falls, NY; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Paul and Nicholas DeLabio; and a sister, Pauline (late Joe) Ungaro.
Visitation will be Saturday from 5-8 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where a service will be held on Monday, September 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM. (No visitation on Sunday). Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 101 John J. Audubon Pkwy., Amherst, NY 14228.
