Gerald J. "Shorty" Failing


Gerald J. "Shorty" Failing passed away on August 19, 2013 after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Kathleen (King) Failing; one son, William Failing; granddaughter, Adelyn Failing of Bradenton, FL; two step-children, Lloyd D. Wood of Lockport and Sandra L. Carlson of Naples, FL; a brother, Henry (Margaret) Failing; two sisters, Henrietta (Lynn) Hanes and Geraldine (Michael) Abramo, all of North Tonawanda; and several nieces and nephews. He was formerly married to Mary Jean Notaro. Gerald is predeceased by his parents, William and Rose (Pawlik) Failing; two brothers, Donald (Edna) Failing and William (Lolly) Failing.
Gerald graduated from North Tonawanda High School, was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps and was employed at Durez Plastics in North Tonawanda for 25 years. He was a member of Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie #1411, and the Niagara County Police and Judge's Executive Conference. Gerald was a good baseball player, loved bowling, but his lifetime passion was fishing with his friends on Lake Erie, where he was known as "Shortman".
Friends may call at the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield on Wednesday from 4-8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 22nd beginning at 10:30 AM in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Czestochowa R.C. Church, Oliver Street, North Tonawanda at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
