John A. Stevens, Sr.

COCHISE, AZ — Cochise, AZ - John A. Stevens, Sr., age 73, formerly of Youngstown, died after a long illness on Monday, September 27, 2010 at his residence in Cochise, AZ. John was born April 3, 1937 in Youngstown, the son of the late Elmer K. and Twila (Williams) Stevens.

He attended the Red Brick School in Youngstown and was a 1955 graduate of Lewiston Porter High School. He worked for many years at the former Pierce Marine Corp. in Youngstown, and McDonaldÕs White House Dairy in Lewiston. John retired from the New York State Power Authority in 2000. He was a member of the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Company and served as Chief for eight years, as well as serving as a line officer. In his retirement, John enjoyed horseback riding on his ranch in Cochise, AZ.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy (Hanrahan) Stevens of Cochise, AZ; his children, John A. (Kristel) Stevens, Jr. of Youngstown, Cynthia Stevens Weeks of Newfane, and Jeffrey D. Stevens of Ransomville; two step-daughters, Lisa of Rochester, NY and Cathy of Tucson, AZ; a grandchild, John Marshall Stevens; his step-grandchildren, Kody, Hunter, Lacy, Sidney, Devlon, Lauren, and Jordan; two sisters, Marsha C. Stevens of Rochester, NY and Judy M. Stevens of Lewiston; a brother, Charles E. (Carol) Stevens of Youngstown; a sister-in-law, Judith Stevens of Youngstown; his former wife, Sandra (Myers) Stevens of Youngstown; and two nieces and five nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth L. Stevens.

A gathering to celebrate his life will be held by his family at a time and date to be announced. Memorials may be made to the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Co., PO Box 387, Youngstown, NY 14174.
