Stanley Babi

NIAGARA FALLS — Stanley Babi, a longtime resident of Niagara Falls, died on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 in   Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. He was 93. He was born in North Tonawanda, NY on July 28, 1920, the son of Theodore and Anna (Lepaciznski) Babi. He attended North Tonawanda schools and served with the CCC and the United States Army. He was inducted in 1942, stationed in Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy, Rhineland, Sicily and Rome. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably             discharged Sept. 25, 1945.

Mr. Babi was employed as an electrician for International Graphic, later becoming Airco Sphere, for 45 years. He retired from full-time employment in 1985. He worked part time for Bowl-O-Drome, doing maintenance work for several years. He loved to golf, bowl, play bingo and camp. He was a Life member of VFW Post 524 and the DAV Empire State Chapter 2.

Survivors include children, Bill McGahey of OH; Greg McGahey (Linda) of Niagara Falls; Dory Ann Butkowsky (John) of Cary, NC; Mary Jane Smith (John) of Niagara Falls; Candace Richardson of Niagara Falls and Rebecca Dudek (Norm) of Lac Du Flambeau, WI; daughter-in-law, Sharon Babi of Niagara Falls; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by wives, Agnes (Edwards) and Janet (Sienicki); children, Stanley Babi and Bonita Lewis and a great granddaughter, Emma.

Friends may call Friday from 2-4, 6-8 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, where funeral services will be held Saturday 11 AM, with the Rev. Matthew Sorenson officiating. The interment will be in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Buffalo VA.
