Katherine R. Hurd

LEWISTON — Katherine R. Hurd, age 91, of Youngstown, died Wednesday, October 31, 2012 in Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston.

Katherine was born May 25, 1921 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Cornelius and Katherine (Kumpf) Stewart and was a 1939 graduate of Niagara Falls High School. On April 12, 1947, she married Richard Hurd. They moved to Youngstown in 1950. Richard predeceased her on June 3, 1972. Katherine worked in the Personnel and Loan Departments at Marine Midland Bank in Niagara Falls for 25 years. She was a member of the Niagara Frontier Bible Church in Lewiston. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and was known as a "Doll Doctor" for her ability to repair dolls.

She is survived by a step-daughter, Katherine M. (Malcolm) Piercey of Niagara Falls, NY; a foster daughter, Barbara Jo (Joe) Sykes of Provo, UT; a granddaughter, Carolyn Boyle of Medina; and dear friends, Rev. Richard and Lynette Gilbert. She was predeceased by a step-daughter, Doris Irene Bedient and a sister, Lillian Stewart.

A memorial service will be held Monday, November 5, at 11:00 AM in the Niagara Frontier Bible Church, Bronson Rd., Lewiston, with the Rev. Richard Gilbert officiating.
