Helen M. Thornton

NIAGARA FALLS —

Helen M. Thornton entered into rest on November 17th, at her home in Niagara Falls, NY. Born on July 30, 1916, the daughter of William W. and Rebecca W. Kelly.
Helen attended local schools. She met and married Delvan E. Thornton of New York City and came to reside in Niagara Falls. Both were employed by Nabisco Shredded Wheat Company. Helen worked as Packer Quality Control and Supervisor and in the Credit Union as steward and secretary for several years. Del died in 1978 after 34 years of marriage.
Helen was the director of the Niagara Nutrition Program for 16 years. She was a faithful member and trustee of St. John's AME Church, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School there for 34 years. She became a member of First Presbyterian Church in 1986 and taught Sunday School there as well. Helen was active in Church Women United, Koinonia and Kairos Ministries and Elk's Sunset Lodge #295.
Surviving are one son, Delvan Thornton, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Carol Thornton; and one grandson, Sean Fields.
Visitation on Friday at 11:30 AM in the First Presbyterian Church, 311-1st St. Funeral to follow at 12:30 PM. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Arrangements by WILLIAMSON FUNERAL HOME, 635 Main St.
