COLLEGE BASEBALL: Kellar named first team all-MAAC

Senior pitcher Michael Kellar was the lone Niagara University baseball player to make the all-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference first team, which was announced Wednesday.
Kellar finished with a conference record of 6-1 and was undefeated heading into the team’s final series against Canisius.
His earned run average on the season was a stellar 3.56 and he finished with 37 strikeouts and 28 walks in 55.2 innings of work.
Meanwhile, Matt Wietlispach was named a second-team all-MAAC choice, finishing his junior season with a .304 average and a team-high 65 hits. Wietlispach added 20 stolen bases, 12 doubles, 40 runs scored and a .440 on-base percentage as the Purple Eagles finished the conference season with a 14-10 mark.
Eight players were named to the MAAC’s all-academic team, including Aaron Bjorkquist, Jessel Mangal, Timothy Cozier , Bill Rafferty, Geoff Strong, Brian Deering, Matt Jordan and Cam Stykemain.
