Black History, Women's History months in focus

Niagara Gazette — The North Tonawanda History Museum is focusing on Black History Month in February and Women’s History Month in March.

The Black History Month Focus is on the history of the Underground Railroad. By popular request, the museum will repeat the showings of several videos.

• SATURDAY: At 1 p.m., the 150-minute “Underground Railroad,” hosted by Alfre Woodard, a documentary from the History Channel.

• FEB. 16: At 2 p.m., the “Whispers of Angels: A Story of the Underground Railroad,” winner of the Chris Award Statuette, 2002 Columbus International Film and Video Festival, will be shown.

• FEB. 23: At 2 p.m., “Race to Freedom: The Story of the Underground Railroad” — a historical melodrama about the Underground Railroad, will be shown. It features Tim Reid and Glynn Turman.

• MARCH 9: At 2 p.m. as a follow-up to the Underground Railroad series in February and a kick-off of Women’s History Month, North Tonawanda History Museum Executive Director Donna Zellner Neal will present the first History Museum official program reporting on its four-year research project into the North Tonawanda “legend of Black Hannah and Black Hannah’s Woods.”
