Niagara Gazette — The Kenan Center House Gallery in Lockport will host the Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society fall members’ exhibit Sunday through Nov. 11. The juried show features 31 artists and 48 works exclusively in transparent watercolor.
Selected artists are: Mary Ann Bartos Casamento, Karen Carnbonara, Todd Chalk, Brenda Cretney, Mike Eagle, Kenneth Faust, Barbara Fox, Deborah Franco, Kathleen S. Giles, Mary Ellen Hanna, Mary Hardegen, Joan Hoffsommer, Charlotte Huntley, Ilona Borka Juhasz, Mike Killelea, Gretchen Kowalewski, Carol Koziol-Clark, Martha Kutas, Ray Lockhart, Manning McCandlish, Catherine O’Neill, Vicki O’Reilly, Fritz Raiser, Sheila Reigh, DeEtta Silvestro, Norine Spurling, E. Jane Stoddard, Sarah Treanor, Dody Walter, Robin Zefers Clark and Jody Ziehm.
Juror for the show is New England artist Paul George, a native of Cambridge, Mass. He is signature member of the National Watercolor Society and an active member of the New England Watercolor Society, Cape Cod AA, North Shore AA, and former Vice President of the Rockport Art Association.
George’s painting “Winterblues” was accepted by the American Watercolor Society for their 133rd exhibition at the Salmagundi Club in New York City. He has won many awards including the Gold Medal from the New England Watercolor Society and the Winsor & Newton Award for Excellence in Watercolor at the National Watercolor Society. His work is in collections throughout the United States and Europe. Now a professional artist, George resides in Ipswich, MA. He has been teaching oil and watercolor workshops in Cape Ann, MA; Monhegan Island, ME; and Florida since 1996. His work can be seen at The George Gallery in Gloucester, MA.
The Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society (NFWS) was formed more than 30 years ago and is dedicated to the medium of transparent watercolor. The purpose of the society is to foster the advancement of the art of watercolor painting, and to inform and educate the general public through exhibitions, lectures and painting demonstrations of the best that is currently being done in the medium. With over 250 members, the group organizes two yearly members exhibition’s, one of which is a Biennial National Exhibition. NFWS invites internationally recognized artists to give workshops at local venues twice yearly. At its monthly meetings, local artists give painting demonstrations, and all are welcome to attend. Membership is open to anyone.
The Kenan Center House Gallery is located in the Kenan House, 433 Locust Street, Lockport.
A free public reception and awards presentation will take place on Oct. 21. Kenan Center House Gallery hours for the exhibit are Monday through Friday, noon to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 2:00-5:00 p.m. The gallery will be closed Monday.
