Whiskey Reverb on the rise again

Niagara Gazette — Before we get to this weekend’s musical happenings, I wanted to congratulate Buffalo’s Whiskey Reverb for winning the local 2013 Hard Rock Rising contest again! The band needs your support to move into the next round of the national competition. Go to Hard Rock Café’s Niagara Falls USA facebook page to get the details on how to vote for Whiskey Reverb through May 1.

When you are there, you can download a great Whiskey Reverb song free entitled “Skeptical” from the band. I was voter number 183 and they were 15th in the standings at the time of this writing. If you are skeptical about the band, you can catch them at The Evening Star on 8810 Niagara Falls Blvd. on Saturday night. Good luck guys, you have earned my vote!

Saturday is a very busy night for music and entertainment in the area. At the University of Buffalo actor/comedian Steve Martin will be giving a lecture entitled, “Stand Up: My Rise and Collapse.” You can bet that it won’t be your typical college lecture.

At the Town Ballroom, Rebelution, a reggae band from California will be performing along with J Boog and Hot Rain. The band has built a strong following over the years and recently ran a contest for local fans to win tickets by hanging up posters and handing out flyers, my son Trevor was one of the winners. He also uses one of the bands songs as his ringback tone, so I hear them often.

Psychic Sylvia Browne is appearing at The Bear’s Den on Saturday night. Browne has appeared on Larry King Live and the Montel Williams show. Her long career has not been without controversy, many of which involved inaccurate predications. If you plan on attending the show she likely knows you are coming. (Forgive me for my lame attempt at psychic humor; I should have predicted that joke would bomb.)
