JENNINGS: Lupe Fiasco, God's Children highlight weekend shows

Night & Day — While you are digesting the rest of your Thanksgiving turkey and recovering from the sleepy side effects tryptophan, you can consider hitting the town this weekend for a show or two. This holiday weekends offerings include a Grammy Award winning rapper, a massive disco dance, a band that thrived during the disco era and a reunion of a popular regional band.

We will start on Friday at The Rapids Theatre who will be hosting Lupe Fiasco. The 31-year-old rapper has an impressive resume beyond performing — he heads an entertainment company, two clothing lines and has even designed sneakers for Reebok.

Two of Lupe’s albums, “Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool,” and “Lasers” are certified gold. He has three Platinum selling singles, “Superstar,” “The Show Goes On” and “Battle Scars.” He also won a Grammy in 2007 in the Best New Artist category.

Advance tickets for the show are $35 and day of show (if available) are $40. They are available at The Rapids Theatre’s box office or through Ticketfly.

Also on Friday, regional legends God’s Children will play a reunion show at The Evening Star Concert Hall in Niagara Falls. The whole original lineup of Bruce Wojick, Leo McDonald, Mark Pirolli, Peter Ajemian, and Peter Vogt will be performing and selling a newly released CD entitled “6 Weeks in Vegas.” Tickets are just $10 at the door.

If you haven’t been to The Evening Star Concert Hall, it’s a cool room with a dark and cool club vibe. I checked out an amazing show with Adam Rafferty on Nov. 16. I had driven by the place a thousand times and was glad I had a reason to stop in.

Speaking of cool events, in Buffalo on Saturday the 20th annual “World’s Largest Disco” event will take place at the Buffalo Convention Center. It’s sold out (it always sells out) and if you are lucky enough to attend I envy you! It has a great reputation and raises a ton of money for charity. It is on my bucket list.
