Busy weekend for the Rapids Theatre

Niagara Gazette — Next week Billy Idol will be kicking of the Tuesday in the Park series, but in the days leading up to show there are plenty of diverse musical choices in the region. They include a band from Liverpool England that was once managed by Brian Epstein and produced by George Martin , a pop star from Dallas Texas, an Indie British rock band and a band that is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame who is known for showing up late for performances.

A band from Liverpool managed by Brian Epstein and produced by George Martin? Most people would guess The Beatles, but throw in the trivia that they were the first band whose first three singles hit number one on the British singles charts and you have Gerry and the Pacemakers.

Led by Gerry Marsden, the group will be performing at Niagara Fallsview Casino on Friday and Saturday. Gerry and the Pacemakers are known for the hits “How Do You Do It?,” “Ferry Cross the Mersey,” and “Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying.” He will be on the same stage where fellow Liverpool native Ringo Starr has kicked off his last three tours.

It was a potentially busy weekend at The Rapids Theatre. Just a few days after hosting a sold out Fall Out Boy show, on Saturday The Rapids was supposed to host country star Billy Currington. Billy made the news last month when he was charged with making “terrorist threats,” to a boat captain that was riding near Currington’s home.

On the surface, it appears that Currington’s celebrity status may have made this incident a lot bigger than it really is.

The Rapids show has been postponed with no date given as of yet. Currington’s first court appearance in Savannah Georgia scheduled for May 28 was also postponed without a future date scheduled. The Rapids cancellation is reportedly due to a scheduling conflict and not related to the pending charges.
