Night & Day — There probably hasn’t been a bale of hay in Foley’s Tavern for a long time — if ever.
Saturday that hay and bunches of sunflowers and bandannas are providing some of the decorations for a first time ever Country Jamboree being held at the Niagara Falls tavern at 8752 Buffalo Ave.
Foley’s typically does not do country, said owner Roger Foley. His bar has been rated the No. 1 nightclub in the Falls for music three years in a row by Buffalo Night Life magazine, he said. Foley’s is going to try something new on Saturday.
“I know country is real popular right now,” said Foley, himself a fan of country music. There will be music inside the newly expanded tavern and outside, where Foley has created a flower bedecked space with umbrella tables.
Just Jim will be performing on the patio starting at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Fog will continue from 8 p.m. to midnight.
The band 90 West, voted No. 1 country band in Western New York by readers of Buffalo Night Life, will perform inside the tavern from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
The patio includes an outdoor bar and a grill that will provide the country-style food on Saturday, including ribs, baked beans and corn on the cob. Drinks will be served in mason jars to complete the down home feel of the event, Foley added.
In addition, the person dressed in the best “country” outfit will receive a $50 gift certificate from Foley’s.
“It’s a bigger event than we usually have,” said Foley, a 1988 graduate of Niagara Falls High School, who has owned the tavern since 1997. “We think it’s going to be a special event, above and beyond what is normally available.”IF YOU GO n WHAT: Foley's Tavern Country Music Jamboree n WHEN: Saturday n WHERE: Foley's Tavern, 8752 Buffalo Ave. n CONTACT: For more information contact Foley's at 283-9959.
