Niagara Falls Music and Art Festival promises fun and culture this weekend

Night & Day — A year ago, Rick Crogan and a group of dedicated volunteers set out to fill downtown Niagara Falls with art and music. The 2013 Music and Art Festival, running Friday through Sunday on Old Falls Street, is the culmination of all that effort.

“Old Falls Street is our front door and our town square,” Crogan said. “The 2013 Niagara Falls Music and Art Festival is all about visitors and locals taking in culture, and having some fun doing it.”

The Niagara Falls Music and Art Festival will host more than 40 bands on three stages from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Bands include Whiskey Reverb, the Peter Novelli Band, Lion Avalanche, Randle and the Late Night Scandals, Savannah King, The Next Level, Bruce Wojick and Jamie Holka, MIKANECHO, Super Killer Robots and Coda. The full lineup is available at www.FestivalAtTheFalls.com.

“Downtown Niagara Falls is a very special venue,” said Becky Marchetti, the festival’s music coordinator. “You can go from being in front of a natural wonder to in front of a live band in minutes.”

The festival does not stop at music, with 50 artists and artisans creating an eclectic vibe on the section of the Old Falls Street between the Seneca Niagara Casino and Niagara Falls State Park. Artists and vendors will feature everything from paintings and photography to wood workings and artisan soaps, while live performers wow the crowds. “Everyone at the festival will have the chance to experience local art and the opportunity to take some home with them. We want this to be a true artistic experience,” Andrea Galyn, art coordinator for the event, said.

Organizers expect more than 10,000 people to attend, giving the festival that once was formally held on Main Street, a major boost.

Crogan credits his volunteer team’s hard work and dedication for the buzz that surrounds this new event. “We started by building a new brand, a new website, and hosting Battle of Bands events throughout the winter. From there, word spread quickly,” he said. “People from all around the world are taking interest, and we are going to show them that Niagara Falls knows how to throw a unique and creative party.”
