Sujeet Desai, a musician with Down syndrome who has been named as an ambassador for those with the disability, will perform a free holiday concert at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul’s Church in Lewiston.

The concert is being sponsored by his parents, retired dentists, as part of an annual tradition the family participated in for years when they lived in Syracuse, prior to moving to Western New York.

This year his concert is at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 400 Ridge Road in Lewiston. Desai will perform solos on clarinet. violin, alto sax piano and organ.

Also performing as an ensemble will be his violin teacher, Jane Bristol, on violin and organ, her husband, Tim Bristol, on guitar and bass, and Justin Gammella, a member of Sujeet’s support staff, on piano and mandolin.

“It is been Sujeet’s life mission,” said his mother,  Sindoor Desai. “Where ever he can he celebrates the abilities of a person with special needs.”

Since 2000 he has performed in over 40 states, and 13 countries, at conferences, fundraisers, schools, nursing homes, churches and hospitals.

He is the recipient of over a dozen international awards for his music and self-advocacy.

In 2011, Sujeet received the Global Down Syndrome Foundation’s Quincy Jones Exceptional Advocacy Award in Denver
