Top Castellani TopSpin artists announced

Niagara Gazette — Three regional artists whose work was featured in the Castellani Art Museum’s exhibition TopSpin 10: The Ten Year TopSpin Retrospective were presented with Viewer’s Choice Awards at the museum’s annual Holiday Mixer on Dec. 14.

Over the past five months visitors to the museum were given a ballot to vote for their favorite works. Nearly 2,000 votes were tabulated.

Sam Qureshi, store manager of Tops Markets on Niagara Falls Boulevard, presented the first place award, a $500 Tops gift card to Tom Holt of Buffalo for his 2012 mixed media on canvas work titled “Working Man.”

The second place award, an overnight stay at Piper’s Village Inn in Lewiston, was presented to Felice Koenig of Buffalo for her 2012 acrylic on canvas “Give Me that Old Fashioned Morphine ...”

Third place, a $100 gift certificate to Casa Antica in Lewiston went to Ani Hoover of Buffalo for her work titled “Heads,” a 2010, ink, acrylic, spray paint on Yupo paper.

TopSpin/10 The Ten Year TopSpin Retrospective runs through Feb. 17 and is accompanied by an anniversary publication. For more information, visit

The Castellani Art Museum is also pleased to announce the artists selected for the 2013-2014 TopSpin exhibition series. The museum’s TopSpin Gallery, dedicated to the exhibition of work by local and regional artists, features a broad range of visual expressions, varied in media as well as message, and focuses mainly on new and emerging artists.

The four artists selected from more than 75 applicants, are:

• Carol Carreno of Youngstown

• Mary K. Johnson of Cheektowaga

• Jody Hanson of Buffalo

• Bethany Krull of Buffalo

Details on the upcoming TopSpin exhibition series will be released in January.
