Niagara Gazette — A 10-foot Gibson guitar will “drop” from a new location in downtown Niagara Falls on New Year’s Eve Monday night as the Hard Rock Cafe continues its fourth annual tradition of ringing in the new year with a full scale indoor/outdoor celebration in and around Old Falls Street.
“We are going bigger and better this year with the guitar descending from the Giacomo Hotel and two national artists for a free concert on Old Falls Street,” said Dominic Verni, general manager for the Hard Rock, welcoming the hotel as a new partner to this year’s event. When the guitar drops concert attendees will be able to see it from all vantage points on Old Falls Street, Verni said.
“We see what Hard Rock is doing to move Niagara Falls back into the national spotlight and The Giacomo is thrilled to be a part of it,” said Jeff Deming, general manager of The Giacomo Hotel, which was formerly the United Office Building. “The idea of incorporating the historic United Office Building, one of the few remaining architectural landmarks in Niagara Falls, shows the perfect blend of past and present. Isn’t that what a New Year’s celebration is all about!”
When the guitar drops concert attendees will be able to see it from all vantage points on Old Falls Street, Verni said.
The free outdoor concert will feature mulitiplatinum rock band Everclear and special guests, Eve 6. Also performing are The Albrights. The free outdoor show starts at 8 p.m. with the guitar drop and fireworks at midnight.
The event is created each year by and assortment of businesses in downtown Niagara Falls. “ It’s partners and businesses coming together in downtown niagara falls that want to make downtown a special place to be on new years eve, to bring more people to downtown,” he said. The businesses sponsoring the event include the Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel, Old Falls Street, The Giacomo Hotel, 103.3 The EDGE, WGRZ TV, Niagara Gazette, Gibson Family of Brands, and Quality Hotel & Suites.
