Talent showcase seeking young performers for big February show

Night & Day — While social media such as YouTube and iTunes has given an international stage to young performers in a way never available before, it has never been more difficult for an artist to stand out.

But, with so much competition for tweets and likes and views, young artists’ work can easily go unnoticed. So, sometimes, those with talent need a hand from a seasoned professional.

Susan Makai, the founder of Personal Best, a modeling and talent school in Buffalo, is hoping be that helping hand, reaching out to young artists in the region and providing them with an opportunity to take center stage.

The first-ever Western New York Young Performers Showcase will be held Feb. 2 at the Millennium Hotel, 2040 Walden Ave., Cheektowaga.

The competition is open to individual dancers, singers, actors, musicians and other performers, ages 11 to 19, who will be judged by national and local talent professionals.

More than $2,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to the top finalists. Partial net proceeds will be donated to the Women’s & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.

“We plan to make this an annual event to recognize and encourage young people who have an interest in the performing arts,” Makai said.

Winners will have the opportunity to appear on local stage and television venues. Top contestants have a chance to win partial scholarships to attend a national talent competition held in New York City.

Applications are now being accepted for the show.  To get more information contact Makai at 831-3870.

But a pair of white bermuda shorts will work just as well as a white-feathered boa. Really, any color clothing is welcome, organizers said, but, white is the color of the day.
