BIO-DIARY: Book helps women track health

Keeping Track:

Niagara Falls native creates book to help women make healthy choices.

Staff reports

A Niagara Falls native now living in California has published a new book called a “Bio-Diary for Women,” which allows women to chart the calories they expend and injest each day.

“I've always kept a diet diary and I thought it would be great if I could publish one so other women could use it,” said Marie Karner during a recent call. “I took a course on printing and published it last year.”

Karner, a Niagara Falls High School graduate who was known as Mary Jane Szalach back then, who is now living with her husband in northern California, said the diary does more than track eating and exercise habits. It also helps women notice the trends in their lives, like the dreams they have and the moods they are in.

The book helps people to realize they can make a different in their own lives by the choices they make, she said.
