WEDNESDAY: House explosion in upstate NY ruled murder-suicide (5:37 p.m.)

WEBSTER, N.Y. (AP) — The deaths of a couple found in the charred ruins of a house in suburban Rochester have been ruled a murder-suicide.

Police say 65-year-old Rose Kinsella was asphyxiated one or two days before an explosion triggered by sprinkled gasoline blew out the front wall of the house in the suburb of Webster on Monday.

Her body was discovered in a bedroom and her husband was found in a converted garage with a gunshot to the head and a long gun lying nearby.

Authorities concluded Wednesday that 66-year-old James Kinsella killed his wife and then set the fire before shooting himself. His motive remains unknown.
