WEDNESDAY: Silver warns of Wall St. ripples hitting upstate (3:36 p.m.)

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver tells a gathering of business leaders in Buffalo that the failures on Wall Street will ripple through the state, making it harder, for example, to fund infrastructure and education.

Silver says in remarks to the Business Council of New York on Wednesday that next year’s state budget is going to be especially difficult and that losses from Wall Street will force the state to re-evaluate revenue predictions for the coming fiscal year.

But he says the turmoil will not distract legislative leaders from their commitment to improving the economy upstate.
