WEDNESDAY: DWI arrest made, 38 tickets written during road check (12:51 p.m.)

The New York State Police conducted a road check on Route 78 on Tuesday afternoon, writing 38 tickets and arresting one man for allegedly driving while intoxicated.

Sgt. Mark Dischner said that between 12 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., troopers wrote six seatbelt tickets and 32 others for various vehicle and traffic violations, such as invalid inspections or registrations.

Noah R. Finley, 24, of Harrison Street, Olcott, was charged with DWI after troopers reportedly smelled alcohol on his breath and had him perform several field sobriety tests.

Finley reportedly blew a 0.10 percent blood alcohol content on a breath test.

Dischner said troopers conduct road checks on a regular basis, but Tuesday’s was particularly notable for the high number of tickets issued.

“It’s been a program we carry every month, but for some reason, (this one) was just huge,” he said.
