BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Tim Russert, growing up, knew it as Woodside Avenue.
Now the rest of Buffalo will know the street where the late NBC newsman was raised as “Tim Russert Way.”
Mayor Byron Brown and Russert’s sister, Kathy Russert Hughes, dedicated a section of the south Buffalo street on Wednesday to the former host of “Meet the Press,” who died of a heart attack June 13. The street is now marked with commemorative green and white signs.
It isn’t the only hometown tribute. President Bush signed a bill last month designating the “Timothy J. Russert Highway,” a stretch of road near Ralph Wilson Stadium, home of the Buffalo Bills. Russert was an avid sports fan and passionate about his hometown football team.
