MUSIC: Ladyfinger brings rockin' sound to Buffalo Icon

Ladyfinger (NE)

“Heavy Hands"

Think of a more metal version of At The Drive In. Then grab a guy with a classic-rock style wail similar to Sammy Hagar, and poof — you've got Ladyfinger (NE).

The four-piece’s most well-known labelmate on Saddle Creek Records is Conor Oberst and Bright Eyes, but the two couldn't be further apart.

The band — who added the abbreviation for Nebraska onto their name in order to quell legal issues — makes the case that straight-up rock and roll is still possible and can still mean something.

The 10-track disc, “Heavy Hands,” highlighted by the sonically stimulating “One Thousand Tongues” and a lack of pretentiousness (see “Too Cool For School"), came out Tuesday.

Ladyfinger (NE) will play a show with another labelmate, Cursive, at the Buffalo Icon on Thursday as part of their nine-date mini-tour in support of their new release.

Check out the band's Web site at ladyfingersucks.com. Three stars out of four.
