Niagara Falls Firefighters battle a blaze in at home at 1823 1/2 Pierce Avenue on Wednesday afternoon. The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen of the two-story frame home. A tenant told fire investigators she had been heating up a pizza in a faulty oven just before flames broke out about 3:30 p.m. A 22-year-old man, who was asleep on the second floor escaped by climbing out a window. He was treated for smoke inhalation and was later transferred to the Erie County Medical Center for treatment. The exact cause remains under investigation and damage is estimated at $20,000.
