STORY/VIDEO: 'Peter Pan' lands on stage next weekend

Peter Pan, Wendy, Captain Hook and all the other classic characters will take the stage at the Palace Theatre next weekend.

Rehearsals are now under way for the Palace production of “Peter Pan,” which opens April 11 and runs with several shows through April 20.

In the five years Christopher Parada has been working with the Palace, he’s always wanted to bring “Peter Pan” to the theater.

“It’s my absolute favorite show,” Parada said. “There’s something that’s always magical (about Peter Pan). You could be 80 years old and still believe in fairies.”

The show begins in the Darling children’s bedroom, an elaborate set with a fireplace, beds and a dollhouse. After a short intermission, the stage will be transformed into Neverland, and then again into Captain Hook’s pirate ship.

“This is huge. Really detailed and elaborate,” Parada said. “It’s a really big thing for Lockport.”

The show will feature flying effects by ZFX Flying Illusions, a Las Vegas-based company that did the rigging for the Broadway tour of “Peter Pan” starring Cathy Rigby.

The show, co-presented by the Palace Theatre and Curtain Up Productions, will open with a preview performance at 10 a.m. April 10.

There will be performances at 7:30 p.m. April 11, 12, 17, 18 and 19; 10 a.m. April 16; and 3 p.m. April 13 and 20.

“It’s a great family show,” Parada said.
