Niagara Gazette

NIAGARA FALLS

- THEFT: Police are investigating a vehicle break-in in the parking lot at City Hall over the weekend. A city employee told officers that sometime between 4 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Monday, someone broke into a city owned Jeep Liberty by smashing a rear window. The employee said a measuring wheel, used by the city Department of Engineering, was taken.

Wheatfield

- CRIMINAL MISCHIEF: The owner of Jolly Roger Citgo Gas & Convenience Store told deputies Monday afternoon that someone lit a sign on fire the night before. A customer came in around 9:30 p.m. Sunday to report the fire, which was extinguished without damaging the sign. The owner later found an old lottery ticket burning on an empty propane tank, the report said. He said he thought someone was trying to get the tanks to explode. Deputies will be making occasional checks of the store.

- BURGLARY: A Shore Drive man told deputies Sunday morning that someone broke into his trailer overnight and took several items. He said someone broke the window on the front door and took $100 in coins, a bamboo fishing pole, a brush knife, a grill lighter, keys, an air gun and a utility knife. Damage to the door was estimated at $50.

- FIGHT: A Dorwood Park woman told deputies Saturday night that she was punched three times in the face during a fight on Young Street. She reportedly stepped between two friends who were fighting. The report said the woman declined to pursue charges against the person who hit her.

- LARCENY: A Killian Road woman told deputies Friday afternoon that two rings were missing from her home. She said she took the rings off at a July 15 party in her home. After the party, she realized the rings were missing, the report said. The guests said they didn’t take the rings or see anyone take them. The 14-karat gold engagement ring and diamond insert ring were valued at $5,295.

Newfane

- CRIMINAL MISCHIEF: Newfane Town Supervisor Timothy Horanburg told deputies Sunday morning that someone pulled flowers from the boxes along the east side of Main Street. The report said the boxes are maintained by the town and the town’s business association. The box in front of Miller Hose Fire Company reportedly had the most damage. Altogether damage was estimated at $300.

- LARCENY: A Hosmer Road man told deputies Monday afternoon that someone stole his Ford TR35 48-inch lawn tractor overnight. Tire marks were left behind by a truck used to transport the property. The report said the tractor is valued at $2,000.

- CHARGED: Daniel J. Dembowski, 44, 2297 Hartland Road, LT3, Hartland, was charged early Monday with driving below the minimum speed limit, failure to keep right, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and driving while intoxicated. A deputy allegedly saw a car driving on Ridge Road that crossed both the center and white fog lines while going 35 mph in a 55 mph zone. The report said the car pulled to the side of the road and then back into traffic when the deputy put on his emergency lights. Dembowski was eventually stopped near Lockport-Olcott Road. Dembowski reportedly had glassy eyes and impaired speech but didn’t smell of alcohol. He failed several field sobriety tests and later agreed to take a blood test for drugs at Inter-Community Memorial Hospital. Dembowski was held in lieu of $250 and will appear today in Newfane Town Court.
