A 50-year-old Lockport resident called Niagara County Sheriff's deputies to report a suspicious situation involving a man and woman trying to extort $50 from him Monday night outside a drug store on Lincoln Avenue.
The resident said the man and woman, both in their mid-20s, approached his car about 8 p.m. and claimed he had struck the man with his car while he was backing out of his parking space. The resident said he did not see them behind his car nor did he feel anything while backing up. The resident added that he thought there was no way they could have gotten to the front of his vehicle so quickly.
The resident said the man was walking with an exaggerated limp and the woman did most of the talking, demanding $50 from him to cover her companion's co-pay for medical attention.
When the resident told them he didn't have $50, he said the man said he'd take $10, saying, "Come on, you gotta have some money in your wallet." The resident instead went into the store to report the incident and when he came back out, the man and woman were gone.
