Niagara Gazette — Hollis Stewart, arrested this week for possessing child pornography, was in North Tonawanda City Court Thursday afternoon for a brief appointment with the public defenders office.

The 38-year-old North Tonawanda man, who has a history of arrests in both Erie and Niagara counties, was arraigned in Lockport Town Court earlier this week.

Stewart was charged on Tuesday by New York State Police with possessing obscene sexual performance by a child, a class E-felony, and is currently being held on $10,000 bail at the Niagara County Jail. He appeared underweight and jittery as he stood Thursday before Judge William Lewis.

City Court Clerk Jennifer Steele said the short interlude was simply to apply for a public defender, which he was successful in obtaining after meeting the requirements.

Attention was drawn to Stewart after he allegedly left a voicemail message at a local chat room service, when the company reported that a man had left messages indicating he would like to talk about his sexual fantasies that involved children.

Stewart has been arrested several times since 2009, with one of them stemming from an incident in which he broke into the home of his ex-girlfriend in the City of Tonawanda. He has lived in Kenmore, Tonawanda and North Tonawanda during the last several years.

He will next appear in city court at 2 p.m. on Wednesday for a conference.
