Niagara Gazette — Lynn Fusco knows Niagara-Wheatfield School District's bus fleet is desperate for some assistance. She'll look to showcase just how important it is for help to arrive as the district prepares for a special vote next week.
A special meeting of the district's school board on this topic has been called for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the district's Adult Learning Center in the high school, 2292 Saunders Settlement Road, Lewiston.
On hand will be a special prop — one of the district's more than 70 school buses — Fusco is hoping will remind parents just how much the purchase is needed.
"(The meeting) will be to again present info about our bus fleet and why it's important for us to purchase these new buses," she said. "Some people haven't been in a school bus in years. We want them to see what it is."
The district is proposing purchasing the buses, an action requiring voter approval, through a special election scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday. District officials said the purchase will not be made through borrowing.
If approved, it would be the first bus purchase authorized by voters since May 2011, which Fusco said has left the fleet with several aging vehicles.Contact reporter Timothy Chipp at 282-2311, ext. 2251 or follow on Twitter @timchipp.
